Handling Biskinik Content

With the Biskinik content having migrated to their own site with their own theme, I wanted to start the documentation process on how things are working over there.

Enter the Block Editor

Like the wiki site, the Biskinik site is a hybrid theme—it’s powered by a combo of PHP and the Block Editor. This means that any content created since 2025 will be built within the block editor—no more ACF fields.

What about the legacy content (pre-2025)?

All of the legacy content has been migrated and is still powered by ACF fields. More on this in the dev note.

Editing the Site

Here is a list of video tutorials on actually editing the site.

  1. Site Editing Overview
  2. Creating a Post
  3. Block Controls (Part 1)
  4. Block Controls (Part 2)
  5. Guest Authors

The New “Editions” Taxonomy

Historically, “Past Issues” (or “Editions” as they’re now called) were a single Post and articles were assigned to that post via ACF field. This has been migrated to a new “Editions” taxonomy. What this means is that instead of adding a new Featured Image and setting a PDF file in the classic Post editor, the taxonomy editor must now be used. Not that different—just more scrolling.

The Header Settings

The Biskinik header switches each month. These settings are generally pretty static, but if they need to change at all, they can be set in the “Header Settings” tab.

Breaking New Banner

This is also where the breaking news banner can be set.
