Image Web Standards

  • Accessibility – Alt tags (alternative text) ensure that visually impaired users can understand images using screen readers.
  • SEO (Search Engine Optimization) – Search engines use alt text to index images, improving the website’s visibility in search results. This helps with making the site more discoverable and builds credibility for our websites.
  • User Experience – Proper image placement and captions enhance readability, engagement, and the overall visual appeal of a website. If incorrect sizes are used, it can cause text to not be visible above the fold or cause large areas of whitespace that look awkward.
  • Responsiveness – Web standards help ensure images are properly scaled and positioned across different devices, making the site more mobile-friendly.
  • Faster Loading Times – Correctly formatted images with proper file sizes and descriptions help optimize performance and reduce loading times. We handle most image file size, but if an image is provided at too large of a resolution, our downscaling can be lossy which result in degradation of color or clarity. It is best that majority of the file size scaling is done at the Creative level.
  • Compliance & Best Practices – Adhering to standards like WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) ensures legal compliance and inclusivity. This is something that is especially important when text is overlapping an image or text is included in an image. We typically oppose this, because it’s hard to control the contrast ratio of the text in responsive (since the text would be placed slightly different per device or when the image becomes too small).
